It starts out with a simple idea that evolves into something much grander. This is why it is so important to nail down the requirements and scope of any project at the very beginning. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing a project evolve and take shape...and on the flip side it is harrowing to see a project lose focus and fall apart.
Once you have established detailed requirements, you can move into the design phase. This can actually be a lot of fun and if you have planned properly, will go very smoothly. Design is where creativity and ingenuity start to form tangible results in your project. Remember to stay on task...not allowing scope creep to kill your budget and timeline!
So you are done with the design...now it's time to apply it. Taking a project to production should be very straightforward if you followed the plan and design phases properly. You will need to do thorough testing, so that when the time comes to officially deploy the project, there are no surprises.
Think you are done with a project once it moves into production? Not quite. A critical piece of a project that is often overlooked and neglected is promotion and maintenance. Now that you have implemented that wonderful idea you had way back at the beginning of the project, it is time to let everyone know about it!
I take a project from its inception and sees it through to completion. The most successful projects I have worked on have always had one thing in common: establishing clear cut requirements and scope at the beginning. While this part of a project doesn't produce many tangible results other than documentation, it is absolutely crucial for ensuring the project remains both on-time and on-budget.
Most projects I work on follow a similar structure:
As stressed throughout this site, I spend a majority of the time focusing on planning, making sure that we know what it is exactly we want out of the project.
As co-founder of pixelEYESthis, I have been able to work on some fun projects and work with some great people. I firmly believe that understanding the problem is half the solution... and often the simplest solution is the best one.
